Impressive Season Opener for Cercle Brugge
On Friday evening, Club Brugge began their new season with a convincing performance against KV Kortrijk. The champions won convincingly and started the season on a positive note under Ivan Leko.
Forbs and Sommer in Action
After 30 minutes, Hugo Vetlesen scored the opening goal, which was well-deserved after the patience required to extend the lead further. That honor fell to Carlos Forbs late in the second half, who doubled the score from close range with just over twenty minutes left on the clock. Kortrijk barely managed to make a dent in the game.
Five minutes after Forbs' goal, Nicolò Tresoldi scored from the penalty spot to seal the 3-0 victory. Summer newcomer Yann Sommer started his Jupiler Pro League career with a clean sheet.
Preparation and Performance
This performance is a good omen for the upcoming season. The team looks set to defend their title, and the first match began perfectly. After losing in preparation against Feyenoord, SC Heerenveen, and Rennes, and being beaten by Union Sint-Gillis in the Belgian Super Cup after penalty shootouts, this victory is a strong start.
